Toxic Fatty Zombies - Mr. Cokelover and Mr. Janitor looking for employment (or brainzzz)

Hello all,

Life has been weird which has kept me from blogging (and painting, and gaming) recently. In order to keep this blog from withering and dying, I figured I would post some pictures of a couple of Toxic Fatties I painted before the shit-storm hit:

Zombicide, Toxic, Zombies, Painted, Fatty, toxic

Very nice figures - a pleasure to paint.
Quite disturbing miniatures, actually.
I tried getting the bottle to look like a coke bottle and do some scribbling on the name tag - works from a distance :-).

Zombicide, Toxic, Zombies, Painted, Fatty, toxic

I will leave you with this shot which reveals their wide, very wide, mouths! Scary!

Zombicide, Toxic, Zombies, Painted, Fatty, toxic

I hope to be back to painting and gaming soon....

All the best,
Kasper

Hot Zombie Love - disturbing evidence from the destroyed city

Hello all,
In the grim, dark, apocalyptic future of Zombicide there is only love?!?
A shocked survivor sent these pictures in to the local survivor head quarters and they may reveal a disturbing development in the zombie-strain:

Zombicide, Zombie, love, hot, fatty, fun

It appears to depict a somewhat obese blond zombie walking through the destroyed streets with her (its?) new boyfriend.

Zombicide, Zombie, love, hot, fatty, fun

A most disturbing development indeed!

Berserker Fatties - Fast Food Addicts Bob and Larry

Hello all,
This being 'conference-season' and all, I hardly get to paint anything. Luckily, I've got a backlog of un-uploaded miniatures that I hope you wont mind looking at.
The two today are Fatties (and I do apologize for their name, but it is the official designation) of the Berserker type:

Zombicide, Toxic, zombie, prison, outbreak, fatty, painted

Bob and Larry were both prison convicts - and I do imagine them being buddies - when the zombiefying disease descended on the jail they were in.

Zombicide, Toxic, zombie, prison, outbreak, fatty, painted

While the blue colour isn't 'canon' in the Zombiecide universe, I needed a colour that would instantly be clear and mark them as Berserking zombies. Having used green already for the toxics, blue seemed a natural choice. It works okay - especially against the orange prison uniforms.

Zombicide, Toxic, zombie, prison, outbreak, fatty, painted

We've tried using the Toxic and Berserker zombies a few times, but to be honest they only seem to complicate the game in a way that doesn't really make sense. Perhaps We will use them more in the future, but now, with all the new rules, boards, etc. there seems to more than enough fun with the basic game.

Zombicide, Toxic, zombie, prison, outbreak, fatty, painted
Booo!

Here Bob and Larry have found a nice used car salesman, somewhat surprised with requests.

All the best,
Kasper

The Fat Lady Singing Her Liebster Song...

Hello all,
So the Liebster thing is circulating like a virus. But a benevolent virus (if that makes any sense?). I received a nomination on my other blog early on but considered it ridiculous. But now, having read and enjoyed numerous responses to the chain letter-thingy, I have reconsidered and find it a brilliant way of getting to know other bloggers better. So it was with great pleasure that Sjeng from http://yeoldeinn-heroquest.blogspot.dk nominated this blog and thus gave me a second chance to divulge my secrets - thanks Sjeng! We both share a love for two of the best boardgames ever produced; Heroquest and Zombicide... wonder if Sjeng ever tried BloodBowl?

So as I understand it I have to let the world know 11 secrets about myself, answer 11 questions posed by Sjeng, and then nominate 11 new blogs.
In order to keep it interesting (and divert your attention from my crappy "Danglish") I'll also be showing one of the latest zombies I've painted. It is one of the new fatties, a delightful fat lady - quite scary actually and she was a pleasure to paint.

Zombicide, Painted, Fatty, Zombie
Come and give mommy a kiss!

So eleven secrets?

1: I ponder each and every little detail. Everything. For instance, why eleven questions and not, say ten? In school the psychiatrist diagnosed me as manio-contemplative. I have since found out that he probably made the term up, but it seems fitting :-).

2: I recently finished, and successfully defended, my ph.d.-dissertation. This was the hardest thing I've ever done and it nearly killed me. I love researching (and I think secret #1 is a great asset for this) but spending on average 16 hours at my desk for a year, away from my family and hobbies, was slowly draining me of the will to live.

3: I've taught seven classes at the University and have loved each and every second of it - but it has also scared the shit out of me. Trying to teach young, brilliant students stuff I hardly understand myself is really, really intimidating. They have been successful courses though - I hold the record for highest grade average and most students passing their exams (also the second place :-)).

4: I really, really love teaching and the only reason I did my ph.d. was to enable me to get more classes.

5: Better find something not work related :-). I suffer from the heart-"disease" WPW (Wolff-Parkinsons-White). I have always thought the name was cool and had a were-wolfy sound to it :-).

6: I drink coffee by the buckets. I would rather have a gallon of mediocre hot coffee than one cup of fancy-pancy coffee.

7: I'm a really sloppy painter, thus no 'work-in-progress'- pictures from me. I'll paint quickly and without regard for where the paint is going, and then I'll have to spend a long time cleaning up the figures afterwards.

8: I've done more drugs than I care to think about. And more types than I can remember. Haven't done any for years, though.

9: I spent a year after high-school working in a coffee-shop in Amsterdam (see secret #8), squatting a hotel, fighting neo-nazis on the streets, and having a blast.

10: I spent another year in India working as a leather smith producing trinkets for the rich tourists at the Anjuna Market (see secret #8). I was forcefully thrown out of the country by the police for having overstayed my visa and only managed to get a couple of items with me. The best thing I made was a double-bag for a motorcycle, but the thing I really wish I had managed to secure was a backgammon board in leather which folded up into a small bag. I was really happy with how that turned out.

11: I think someone has continually watched over me (see secrets # 2, 8, 9, and 10). Considering what I've been through, I have never been badly hurt nor sick and for that I am really, really grateful today.

12: A bonus secret: I really miss my dad. He passed away very suddenly last year and I think about him everyday. Do me a favour - if your parents are still alive, please give them a call (or a visit) today and tell them you love them.

11 Questions from Sjeng:

1. What was your very first miniature? Did you paint it?
My cousin got a copy of a Danish roleplaying game called "Drager og Dæmoner" ("Dragons and Demons") - a complete rip off of D&D - which he didn't appreciate. I, on the other hand, had suddenly discovered an entirely new world and loved it. With the game came a handful of really bad miniatures, but I found them brilliant. One of these was a Troll which I "painted" - I still have it somewhere (although it has been repainted several times since) - and the paintjob looked like something done with goo and dirt. I think I used Humbrol paint, but whatever type of paint it was, heavy layers were applied.

2. What's your favourite boardgame?
Difficult question - Zombicide (because I get to play it regularly), Heroquest (because I play it with the family), and Bloodbowl (still the best game ever made and I really love the campaign rules, but I never get to play it).

3. What's your favourite videogame?
I used to play numerous games but today I havn't played a real game in years - perhaps Clash of Clans on the Ipad, as I play it sometimes with my sons.

4. How much time do you spend on your hobbies?
There has been a long period of little or no time spent (see secret #2) but today I often use five hours a day painting miniatures, photographing, blogging, and reading other blogs.

5. What do you do for a living, and do you enjoy it?
I teach at a University, although at the moment I'm unemployed, busy applying for post doc.s.

6. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Remembering everything I read. I hate how much brilliant knowledge I've forgotten.

7. What sort of movies do you watch?
Haven't been to a cinema for a long time - and rarely see anything on the TV. But I enjoy most genres - fantasy, humorous, historical, etc.

8. What sort of music do you listen to?
I've got 45 days worth of music on the computer and this will normally just shuffle all day. I enjoy most types (from classical music to heavy metal), but Johnny Cash holds a special place in my heart.

9. What's your favourite food?
Used to be bacon, but I find myself increasingly turning into a vegetarian. I do make a brilliant Stinging-Nettle Pie, that even the kids like - and it gives bragging rights in school that they eat Stinging-Nettles :-).

10. What's your greatest ambition?
I would really like to publish a monograph and to have it make a positive impact on the scholarly world. I've got a contract with a German publisher regarding my Ph.D., but I do not really think it will make a great impact on anything - apart from my CV :-).

11. What your greatest regret?
The people I have mistreated - both in school and in later life. It took me far too long to realise that treating other people kindly is the only thing that matters in life.

Zombicide, Painted, Fatty, Zombie

So the only remaining thing is to nominate 11 new blogs and so spread the contagion. But I think I will do it a bit different and wait a year or so before doing this. This will allow the Liebster to survive and any new blogs created in the mean time to get nominated.

Thanks for reading - I hope it wasn't too boring!

All the best,
Kasper

100.000 visitors = An Apocalyptic Final Stand (eye-candy galore)!

Hello all,
It seems the number of visitors to this zombierific blog crept above the magic number 100.000 during the weekend. I really want to thank each and everyone, but as that would take quite a while, I've decided this would be an appropriate moment to lineup all the zombies and survivors from the Zombicide game I've painted so far. Think of it as a photo-apocalyptic-thank-you from me to you :-).

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The survivors prepare for a last, desperate last stand

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Led by Nick and the old gang, each survivor has stocked up on weapons and prepares to unleash hell

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Led by the zombie dogz and runners the zombies rapidly approach the survivors

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Even the Zombie Dogz can be heard gorwling *BRAINZZ*

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
More than a dozen runners is a bad, bad sight

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
A sizeable group of fatties lumber towards the survivors, intent on feating tonight

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
On the survivors' right is a small contingent of the new and terrifying Toxic Zombies

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The kids (from Hasslefree) are kept in reserve, although they are fully able to kick some Zombie-a**

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The slightly weird, tutu-wearing uncle Ed prepares to stop the zombies from getting to the children and women

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The unstoppable horde

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Runners galore
How will it all end? No idea, but thanks for stopping by, commenting and following this blog. I really apprecaite it and doubt I would have gotten through half the zombies without having this blog to showcase and keep my spirits up.

All the best,
Kasper

Zombicide: Finished Fatties - all painted!

Hello all,
I made it through the fatty horde and got them all painted. A fine mini but difficult to vary and quite boring in the end. Did manage to sneak quite a few conversions into the mix to alleviate the boredom :-)

Not much to say on these so just enjoy the pretty pictures :-):

Zombicide: Last batch of Fatties painted - cowboys and more 'Easy Entrails'

Hello all,
Last batch of the Fatties painted. The first group sports more entrails made with Clay-Doh (or Play-Doh) - the guide to which can be found here.
Pretty easy, cheap and effective technique. The centre guy has har half his head cut of, likely from a katana.

Zombicide, Fatty, painted, converted, zombie
Just goes to show that the job desciption of a zombie is pretty forgiving.

Zombicide, Fatty, painted, converted, zombie

The second batch has a chap who has lost his hand, though fromt he looks of the wound he might have been a bit hungry...
Zombicide, Fatty, painted, converted, zombie
The other chap has a fancy cowboy hat on. I found this amongst my sons toys and figured it woulld look fun, and thus J.R. Zombie was born.
Zombicide, Fatty, painted, converted, zombie
Good fun, and here is a shot of them all together.
Zombicide, Fatty, painted, converted, zombie
Last of the fatties, and I won't be sad never to paint another of that particular type of zombie again...

Zombicide: Mantic Zombie Mutations II (Fatty)

Hello all,
Painting Zombies. No problem. But painting more than a hundred zombies to paint will drive anyone insane. And that is just the Abomination pack - there is an additional hundred zombies coming during this year. As the best remedy is to add some diversion to the horde, I searched my bits box and found an old sprue that I had gotten for free with some purchase. On the sprue were two Zombies, and various bits and bobs to put on them - all made by Mantic Games (link). Great detail, alhthough their zombies are closer to what I would term Ghouls.
I then set about snipping and snapping, and managed to diversify eight of Guillotine Games' zombies - without them becoming too unrecognizable. The bodies are almost exactly the same size, so the conversions were easy and great fun.
As with all my minis, the intention is to get them ready as quickly as possible and then, at some time, to return and add a few details (especially to the bases - they are much too clean atm).

The second victim of my conversion spree was this fatty. He lost a hand (truly, it has disappeared on my cluttered table) and gained a vicious looking mechanical gizmo.
Zombicide zombie Mantic painted conversion hand fatty
He will henceforth be know only as "Fatty Krueger", due to a certain family resemblance:

Maybe I should ahve given him a fancy hat as well :-).
The unpainted mini looked like this:

And with a dab of paint:

Zombicide!: Painted Fatty Zombies

Hello all,
Managed to finish a few more Fatties. Nasty buggers!

I've given each a little snack - an arm from unfortunate victims. It looks better in real life - in these pictures the arm looks more like a hotdog :-).

Still not sure about how to paint Zombies with a darker skin, but I think I'm getting there.

Zombicide! Painted Berserker and Toxic Abominations

Hello all,
Managed to get my hands on an early prototype of the Berserker and Toxic Abomination and couldn't wait to paint them:
Zombicide Zombie Enforcer Abomination Berserker Toxic Painted Kickstarter

Nah, just kidding :-).

Zombicide Zombie Enforcer Abomination Berserker Toxic Painted Kickstarter

Found these two pre-painted miniatures in my LGS for next to nothing (1.25$ total) and decided that they would 1) be great fun to (re-)paint and 2) work well as a Toxic and Berserker Abomination, respectively.

Zombicide Zombie Enforcer Abomination Berserker Toxic Painted Kickstarter

They were originally produced by Wizards of the coast for some game I've never heard about but the sculpt quality is excellent, and especially the Zombie Enforcer Nazi guy was great fun to paint. His game-plate even had a great motto, which I think I'll adopt for this page: "When the dead start walking, the living run" :-).

The other 'Mr. Doomsball' is just mental - apparently someones forcefed him a naval mine.

Here are some before the repaint and after (but without the blood) pictures, with a Zombicide runner for size comparison.

And in their original paint scheme.

The Zombie with a bomb in his stomach (not a sentence your read everyday...) is begging to get a scenario of his own...
