Squirt-Gun Child Survivor - Hasslefree's Tom (HFN006)

Hello all,
Another of Hasslefree's great Juvenile minis is this wee chap:

Zombicide, alternative, survivor, child, juvenile, Hasslefree, Tom, HFN006
Hasslefree's Tom (HFN006)

He goes by the name of Tom, and carries a squirt gun, a tin foil hat, and a mobile phone. No, I have no idea how he has managed to stay alive, but perhaps he was left behind in a toy store when the zombie apocalypse hit his city. Perhaps the gun shoots acid, or maybe he is simply blessed?

Zombicide, alternative, survivor, child, juvenile, Hasslefree, Tom, HFN006
Hasslefree's Tom (HFN006)

He was fun to paint, although he is absolutely tiny! I wanted some really strong colours on the gun, which si not what I have most of on my paintrack so that was a nightmare.

Zombicide, alternative, survivor, child, juvenile, Hasslefree, Tom, HFN006
Hasslefree's Tom (HFN006)
Hasslefree describe him thusly:
Winner of the 'Civilians & bystanders' category in the Area51 sculpting competition and sculpted by Tom Mason. This fearless little guy with his tin foil hat and 'super-soaker' water pistol looks all set to go into open combat with any aliens that threaten his sweetie collection let alone his planet! Approx 15.5mm to eye level and 21mm to the top of his head.
Tom Mason

He serves as a objective token most of the time, but my kdis love him and we all hope he survives each game :-).

All the best,
Kasper

100.000 visitors = An Apocalyptic Final Stand (eye-candy galore)!

Hello all,
It seems the number of visitors to this zombierific blog crept above the magic number 100.000 during the weekend. I really want to thank each and everyone, but as that would take quite a while, I've decided this would be an appropriate moment to lineup all the zombies and survivors from the Zombicide game I've painted so far. Think of it as a photo-apocalyptic-thank-you from me to you :-).

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The survivors prepare for a last, desperate last stand

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Led by Nick and the old gang, each survivor has stocked up on weapons and prepares to unleash hell

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Led by the zombie dogz and runners the zombies rapidly approach the survivors

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Even the Zombie Dogz can be heard gorwling *BRAINZZ*

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
More than a dozen runners is a bad, bad sight

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
A sizeable group of fatties lumber towards the survivors, intent on feating tonight

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
On the survivors' right is a small contingent of the new and terrifying Toxic Zombies

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The kids (from Hasslefree) are kept in reserve, although they are fully able to kick some Zombie-a**

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The slightly weird, tutu-wearing uncle Ed prepares to stop the zombies from getting to the children and women

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
The unstoppable horde

Zombicide, Zombies, all, painted, survivors, apocalyptic,
Runners galore
How will it all end? No idea, but thanks for stopping by, commenting and following this blog. I really apprecaite it and doubt I would have gotten through half the zombies without having this blog to showcase and keep my spirits up.

All the best,
Kasper

Hasslefree Children: Big Brother Peter will protect you!

Hello all,

Antoher of the Hasslefree children - this time it is HFA009 Peter, a hard, young boy, who looks like he has faced something dreadful in the last days:

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, boy, brother, apocalyptic, HFA009, Peter

He is, although it may be difficult to see with the graffiti in the background - damned vandals! - armed with a crowbar and looks like he knows how to use it!

Anyways, thanks for reading - if you found the post interesting then any comments or tips are greatly appreciated!

Zombicide!: Hasslefree size comparison

Hello all,
Just in case anyone could use a size comparison between the survivors from Zombicide and the alternatives from Hasslefree:

Zombicide, survivor, Hasslefree, alternative, size, comparison

The Hasslefresian ladies are a bit more diminutive but I don't think this is an issue once the zombie hordes start infesting the surroundings...

Hasslefree Children: Big Sister - post-apocalyptic queen

Hello all,
Another of Hasslefree's great juvenile sculpts - this time Samantha, the Big Sister from their Children pack.
She is carrying a baseball bat and the lid from a trash can - and from the confidence she exudes, I think she knows who to use them!

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, girl, sister, apocalyptic

Great fun to paint - although,as with the other children, she is quite small. As with all Kev's sculpts she has a ton of character and the lid is pure brilliance.

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, girl, sister, apocalyptic

And she aint afraid of no Zombie!

Hasslefree children: Lil' sister

Hello all,
Never got around to posting pictures of the little sister from the Hasslefree Children set - so here she is in all her tiny glory:

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, girl

Painting her brought back bad memories of painting 10mm miniatures, but she turned out to be a charming little lady - unafraid of all the zombies and happy to tug along behind her brother and sister.

(Zomtober IV): Hasslefree Children: Sister

Hello all,
Joining her little brother (featured here), this tough little gal is this weeks contribution to Zomtober. Or, perhaps, that should be Surviber... :-). Anyways, she is brilliant little miniature but oh so tiny and I've had her almost done for a few weeks now, but couldn't decide on the last details and if I was brave enought to tempt it.

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, girl

She is part of Hasslefree's HFV008 Village Kiddies. Apparently they are supposed to medieval villagers, but I see no reason why they couldn't fit into a modern environment.

Zombicide, Survivor, Alternative, Child, Zombie, Hasslefree, girl

Excellent details on these, especially considering just how tiny they are. The little girl felt more like painting a 15mm miniature than a 28mm.

More details of Sarah - that has got to be her name, right? She just looks like a Sarah to me.

Hasslefree miniatures: Morgan, Old Lady, and Parker

Hello all,
The next batch of alternative survivors ready to be painted from Hasslefree Miniatures:

Hasslefree, miniatures, Morgan, Old Lady, Parker, Survivors

Morgan looks like a fun model, although I've been in two minds as to which colour her trenchcoat should be. Parker's hidden, tiny, face is already giving me nightmares :-).

(Zomtober III): Hasslefree's Gruff with the last beer in the world...

Hello all,
Well, we have something depressing to showcase today. Another survivor for Zombtober, yes, but also a sad survivor. Poor old Gruff (HFA067) has just fought his way through the Zombie hordes only to discover there was only one beer left. Look at the poor bloke contemplating whether to drink it immediately or treasure it while attempting to stay alive...

Hasslefree, Gruff, HFA069, survivor, zombie, painted, Zombicide, alternative

What would you do - drink it now, or later and risk never getting the possibility?

Hasslefree, Gruff, HFA069, survivor, zombie, painted, Zombicide, alternative

Another brilliant miniature from Hasslefree - love his sad face and when my son found the empty beer box outside on the street we both agreed it would suit Gruff perfectly (even though it is a bit too large - but it isn't permanently fixed to the base). Oh, btw, Gruff led to Duff :-).

Hasslefree, Gruff, HFA069, survivor, zombie, painted, Zombicide, alternative

Hasslefree describes him thusly:
Oh dear, what have we here? If you are looking for an archetypal wargamer with with more than a little attitude then look no further. This adult male is well-equipped to fight zombies on or off the gaming table.

Anyways, thanks for reading - if you found the post interesting then any comments, questions, or tips (commercial clicks :-)) are greatly appreciated!

Painting Skin - An Easy How to Guide using Hasslefree's Bob and Felicity

Hello all,
I've had a few question as to how I paint the flesh / skin on my survivors and zombies. I use the same technique on both, as I envision the zombies being predominantly recently dead and not half rotten beings (if you want to paint your zombies really quickly, have a look at this guide to painting them in just ten to twelve minutes).
I guess I was asked not because I acheive anything close to a Golden Demon standard but because I can acheive a skin tone that looks alright very quickly,
So without further ado, here is a quick guide to how I paint skintones:

First, get some lovely miniatures - I've chosen Bob (HFH056, more pictures here) and Felicity (HFA086 (c), more pictures of her here) from Hasslefree. Great sculpts and Bob shows a ton of skin whereas Felicity decent clothing reveals a normal amount (well, not normal for Kev White female miniatures).
All pictures are clickable to show the details better.

1.
The lovely couple (and their zombie friend, who will soon disappear as I got sidetracked painting her) has been undercoated white.
I almost always use white as it produces nicer colours with less effort.

2.
The first layer of  Vallejo Basic Skintone (70815) has been applied - diluted to avoid removing too many details.

Felicity, Bob, Hasslefree, Miniatures, painting, skin, guide, how to, easy, quick, survivor

3.
Another layer of Vallejo Basic Skintone . I've also at this stage painted Felicity's hair and the eyes on both.
I used to do these last but after discussing the matter I've changed to painting them first.
This has the advantage that you are not "bored" with the miniature yet (which you very well may be at the end of painting it) and thus have fresh eyes. You are also more likely to redo the eyes if you are not close to finishing the miniature as it is quite easy to redo at this stage - just do another layer of flesh tone.
Also, no matter how great your paint job, if the eyes are not great the entire mini will suffer so it is worth getting right. I'm not as skilled at this as I would like (too old and too impatient) but I try my best.

3. The first of several layers of diluted Vallejo Game Color Lavado Wash Acrylic Paint Fleshtone Shade 73204 (thats a long name!).
If you are a talented painted you would have accomplished this by carefully blending the fleshtones, but for the likes of me washes helps do the job my skills cannot accomplish. Several layers to avoid too hefty blobs and that "dipped" look. Although for zombies this is a minor problem - they serve to be killed, rapidly, so just give them a hefty layer.

4. Another layer of Vallejo Fleshtone.

5. A few touchups to the skin and the other details have been added. This is where you should apply highlights etc, but I am normally satisfied with the results at this stage and call it quits. Primarily because I'm looking forward to adding blood, etc. All the fun stuff!

6. The finished result - quick, but effective.

(Zomtober II) Hasslefree Juveniles: Lil' bro (HFV008 Village Kiddies)

Hello all,
We need more survivor-heroes to combat the everincreasing horde of Zombies. Hence this little chap. He is so small my camera struggled to capture him, but he was a pleasure to paint - really love the wooden sword and his carefree attitude. Looks like not even an Abomination could trouble him!

Zombicide, Hasslefree, Alternative, Survivor, Juvenile, painted, zombie, HFV008 Village Kiddies, boy

The lad is part of Hasslefree's HFV008 Village Kiddies which is three kids - a smaller and an older girl. They are all brilliant minis but oh so small - great fun. Hasslefree's description is:

Teeny tiny village children. The personalities of these three figures is based upon our own young children. The tallest figure is 18mm high and the smallest is 14mm high.

I guess this boy is around 16mm - absolutely tiny.

Zombicide, Hasslefree, Alternative, Survivor, Juvenile, painted, zombie, HFV008 Village Kiddies, boy

My plan is to use these kids as objective markers in Zombicide rather than the cardboard markers. It adds a lot more incentive when you have to free a small kid rather than picking up another X-marked marker.
