Zombiecide Storage Crisis Solved - Cheap Storage Solution from Sally 4th

Hello all,
So, the lucky bastards who were part of the Kickstarter Season One for Zombicde got app. 200 miniatures out of the deal. Now, this is actually something of a mixed blessing - 200 miniatures, the majority of which are zombies, is a lot of minis to paint. And then, once you've painted the buggers, it dawns on you that you need to store that bazillion of zombies and the hefty amount of survivors. And with the minis from Season two arriving shortly the problem will only be doubled.
Now, not to cry about having a massive amount of painted minis, but where and how do you store so many minis? And in a manner wherein you can quickly get them out and not spend the entire evening wrapping them in papertowel or figuring out which one goes where in your expensive styrofoam carrying case?
Well, I believe I've found the answer to this question. Allow me to praise a product made by a British company called Sally 4th.
Not a bad name either :-).
This company produces a fair few things, but the thing that caught my eye was their line of Figure Storage Chests. This is a line of laser cut wooden 'chests' that come in a variety of sizes and heights. And the best thing is that they also produce inserts, tailored to just about every basing system out there.
So I went and did the only reasonable thing - I bought a few samples just to test them out and this is the result:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

With room for 48 models in their 25mm round insert cutouts, all the survivors and zombivores will fit within one chest, and have room to practice their Zombie-slaying-tricks as well.
I've bought the 75mm heigh version and have opted for the magnetic inlay as well. this works perfect for the plastic minis, but for metal minis I would go easy on the travelling. Meaning they will stay in place while travelling, but if someone turns them upside down, they will fall down half the time.
A few examples of the zombie horde tucked away in their chests:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

A ton of Walkers, ready to party.

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

And, in another chest, a hefty group of fatties and some runners for support.
As you can see, three chests will fit more than the basic set (and even the Abomination pack), and as it only takes a second to stow away a given mini (or pull out a handfull of Runners to ruin everyones day) I do believe this is the currently best answer to how one can stow the Zombicide minis.
And four chests will only take up a small amount of shell space as they are fully stackable:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

Now I did a little bit of modification before I assembled the chests - just to make the sets seem more urbannish:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

A quick grey spray, and the inserts share the 'dark asphalt' look I've used on my Zombicide bases. Makes the entire thing seem more fitting. And I plan to go back and both add a bit of blood splatter and some clutter once I get more time.
More examples of minis in the Sally 4th storage chests:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

Now there are a few caveats with this system.
1: The entire thing comes without any instructions and looks quite fragile when you get the set. The mess below are six chests and two lids:

Sally, 4th, forth, Storage, crisis, miniatures, cheap, wood, zombies, zombicide, survivors, safe

Looks a bit daunting. But once you get started the things build themselves and it was a bit like building wooden planes as a child.

2. the smell. Now becuase these are cut by a laser they smell. They smell burnt and they will do so for some time. Mine have been in action for a few weeks and I'll still notice the smell once in a while. But in the beginning the smell is quite noticeable, and the room you store them in will smell like a 'cub scout'-hangout. Very smokey - not like a cigarette, but like burnt wood. Whether this is a significant problem is something you must decide for yourself, but for me it was like reliving my childhood, so I came to enjoy the smell, even though it surprised me.

3. the price. While very fairly priced (I believe each chest, with magnets and inserts) set me back ca. 8£ is by any standard not a lot, it is money not used on miniatures and, again, is a point worth considering. I pondered long and hard (well for a day or so) and finally decided that the convenience they offered was worth it, and the quality of the product is great - well designed and flawless executed.

Now, I really like the products from Sally 4th (including their cheap round bases with magnets, excellent priced) and thus I happily recommend them for solving the problem of storing any minis. I'll be buying a few more chests and inserts for use with my Warmaster 10mm miniatures - four chests should hold vast armies and wills tandardize my storage system (and free up a lot of the wife's kitchen containers...).

Anyways, thanks for reading - if you found the post interesting then any comments or tips (commercial clicks :-)) are greatly appreciated!
Until the next time; stay safe and prepare to slaughter Zombies!

All the best,
Kasper

Hello all,
It appears that this wee blog has steadily over the course of the last four months climbed to more than 40.000 hits. That calls for a party, and our bold survivors have thus gathered all the hottest Zombie babes out there in order to spiffen up the party a bit :-).

Hello all,
It is now official - there will be accomodations for zombies at Fawlty Towers. Basil Fawlty will make sure of that. Especially Zombies from Barcelona will be exceuted on sight.

Another stunning sculpt from Guillotine games. Will have to learn how to paint tweed, though.
He is of course 'based' on this chap:

Alternative Survivors and Zombies for Zombicide

Hello all,
Even though I have a stockpile of minis as tall as a very tall thing (and more coming shortly, according to the chaps at Guillotine Games the extra Survivors from the first Kickstarter will soon arrive) there are quite a few minis that I would love to buy and paint for future use in Zombicide.
Rather than forget about all of these I figured I would list them here, and who knows, perhaps Santa Claws will be generous :-).
The list is not that long at the moment, but it will be updated whenever I stumble across interesting minis.

Optional Survivors:
First on the list is this guy (although perhaps he should be listed as a zombie?):

Mr Jingles Survivor Zombie Comfy Chair Games

Mr. Jingles from Comfy Chair Games - hot damn I would love to paint that clown! At 8$ he is a bit pricy but is one of the most interesting minis I've seen in a long time.
Link: http://www.comfychairgames.com/pack.php?pack=18

Second on the list are these guys from Flying Frog Productions (brillaint name, btw):
I've no idea what they were intended to be used as but they scream survivor characters to me. And at 20$ for 12 miniatures they seem a great deal.Link: http://stores.homestead.com/FlyingFrogProductions/Detail.bok?no=15

Also this chap (who reminds me of someone...) would be a pleasure to paint:
Studio Miniatures Survivor optional Cole
He is called Cole by Studio Miniatures and priced at 3.99£.
Link: http://www.studiominiatures.com/shop/survivors.html

And, because the character screams awsomeness (and the mini looks good as well), Michelle from Hasslefree Miniatures:
Survivor optional alternative Zombicide Michelle zombie HAsslefree Miniatures
Somehwat pricey at £7, but then again you get 1.7 zombies as well :-). To be honest, most of Hasslefree's excellent miniatures would make perfect survivors. Sigh.

Optional Zombies:
Although backers of Zombicide season one and two will probably never need more zombies, it doesn't hurt to dream, does it?
This group of plastic zombies have been begging me to buy them and paint them for a long time:
Sexy Zombie Vixens Wargames Factory Alternative Optional Zombicide hot plastic

The Zombie Vixens, produced by Wargames Factory, appear to be good quality and offer excellent conversion opportunities at only 20$ for 30 minis. Amazing price.

Link: http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/dark-futures/zombie-vixens

And these Zombie Strippers from Reaper Minis
10$ for the three of them.

Thats it so far, if you have any suggestions please leave a comment and I'll be sure to include them in the list.

All the best,
Kasper

Free Zombicide scenario from Ravage Magazine

Hi all,
Apparently Guillotine Games has been busy doing a few scenarios for CMON's magazine called Ravage Magazine. In issues 4,5 and 6 (I think) there is one or two new missions that seem to be of good quality, although the one I've found a link to online seems pretty straigth forward and without any radical new thinking involved. Although the idea that cars can only use one Action Point each turn is a pretty good house rule to lessen the impact of cars on zombies (pun intended).
As CMON posted this link I guess it is okay to include the mission here to show the quality of the magazine:

Zombicide: Optional Item Cards

Hello all,
With all the interest in the Zombicide Kickstarter there are quite a few brilliant ideas being suggested in the Kickstarter forum. This blog is just an attempt at capturing some of them in order to use them later - no disrespect meant to those who came up with the ideas in the first place.

Zombicide Kickstarter optional cards search rules new

To begin with, here are two small lists of optional search results to add a bit of spice to the whole search-experience..
Badmojovoodo suggested these optional Item cards
Outta ammo – remove either a plenty of ammo card or a ranged weapon. If you don´t have either, proceed clockwise until another player can remove such a card. Otherwise discard.
Outta gas – choose a car currently being used - roll a die, that many zones are left to drive until the car is out of gas/removed from the game. Keep track with the die on the car. (perhaps a gas can remedy this card/refill the car).
I just keep forgetting stuff… – discard a melee weapon. If you don´t have either, proceed clockwise until another player can remove such a card. Otherwise discard.
How the h**l did they get in? – find the zone(s) with the most zombies close to an unopened door. The door breaks.

Barry Hood suggested these additional Item Cards:
Horde Incoming! - During the next zombie spawn, for each normal spawn card (i.e. not sewer or extra activation) place double the number of indicated zombies. Usual rules apply (i.e. a second abomination is replaced with a fatty, if you run out of a particular type of zombie that type gets an extra activation).
The wall's coming down! - Rubble traps the survivor who searched. They may take any actions except movement actions or actions which would result in them escaping the trap (such as entering a car) until another survivor in the same zone spends 1 action to free them.
Additional AARGH! cards for toxic walkers, berserkers and dogz.

Note: I really dig the idea of there being a downside to searching - at the moment there is almost no risk involved. Although some of these would be gamebreaking - i.e. a How the h**l-card at the wrong time would be disastrous.

Using Games Workshop Liquid Green Stuff

Hello all,
Although the Zombicide miniatures are brilliant sculpts they, like all other plastics, suffer from the occasional hole or damaged area. I bought some of Games Workshops Liquid Green Stuff and gave it a go to see if it could fix the problem. The stuff is really thick gooey solution of Green Stuff (watered down) and seems to work excellent.
Zombicide Green Stuff Games Workshop Nick Cop
The test candidate was Nick the Cop - who seems to have suffered a bullet wound to the leg.
Zombicide Green Stuff Games Workshop Nick Cop
A dab of the thick geen stuff (using an old and soon to die brush) just before applying it.

Zombicide Green Stuff Games Workshop Nick Cop

And viola! The damaged part is no more. The Green Stuff dries quickly and leaves no marks, in fact it turns out completely smooth.
Now this is the same as I used to do many moons ago with watered down green stuff, so I was not surprised it would work, but this is so much easier. Instead of having to get out a blob of green stuff and getting it to the right substance, here you just pop open the lid and a few seconds later the job is finished.
Not bad, Games Workshop.

Kasper

Zombicide! Download the rules for free

Hello all,
One of the things I love about smaller companies such as Guillotine Games is that they are not greedy. Being used to Games Workshop, who will attempt to suck every penny out of you, smaller game companies have a wonderful habit of just letting people play their game and being happy with whatever revenue they get along the way.

Zombicide! Free Rules Download
Zombicide!
In this case, Guillotine Games have made the (updated) rules for Zombicide! available for free online. That is awesome with a sprinkling of awesome-sauce on top. And makes me want to support them in any way I can, including this blog, which hopefully helps to spread the word about this great game!

Anyways, in case you did not know of the offer by Guillotine Games, here is the link -

Zombicide! New Official Rules Überweapons in UltraRed Mode

Hello all,
Even more nice stuff from Guillotine Games today - Überweapons for ÜberSurvivors :-). These are only availlable for top level survivors, but should help clear the hordes of undead Zombies. Very nice weapons, and cool names as well: Doug's Dream (a pair of Uzis) or Ned's Atomic Searchlight :-).

Zombicide! Official Zombivore rules posted

Hello all,
In anticipation of the supplement to Zombicide!, Toxic Mall, Guillotine Games have been sweet enough to offer previews of most of the new content. None of the new rules have been the subject of more rumour mongering than how they
ve handled the idea of the survivors returning to life as zombies. Or as zombivores, zombies with a strong enough will to sta on the 'good side'.
Well, monger no long because here are the finished rules:

Not sure about this rule, but I'll let GG have the benefit of the doubt and try it a few times before getting judgemental on them.

Zombicide! Zombie Dogz rules for Toxic Mall

Hello all,
Well, Guillotine Games posted the new rules for Zombie Dogz today. And oh dear, these are scary:

Three actions? And targeted last? And appearing in groups of four (source)?
Oh Lord, save us from the fury of the Zombie Dogz...

Zombicide! New Rules for Toxic Mall!

Hello all,
In anticipation of the upcoming 'Toxic Mall', Guillotine Games has been showering us with new images. They've also (as the nice chaps they are) provided a few pages from the new rulebook.

Zombicide! New Rules for Toxic Mall
Pages 4 to 5 details the new toxic Zombies.
Introducing Pa's Pistol (only fair he gets one when there is the Ma's version :-)).
Now the nasty feature of the Toxic Zombies is that they have an ability called Toxic spray. This causes one wound on survivors when they are killed in the same zone. Very Nasty! Will make helping swarmed players much more difficult.
Zombicide! New Rules for Toxic Mall
Pages 6 to 7 has information on the toxic Abomination and Zombivores - zombie survivors...
Apparently the Zobivore characters - undead survivors, but with a free will - are tougher than normal (taking five wound cards to kill) but slower.
Toxic zombies are targeted before normal zombies.
Apparently the Toxic Abomination turns all zombies in its zone into toxic zombies. Bad news!

Not bad, click to enlarge and study the rules.

All the best,
Kasper

Zombicide! New character: Raoul Zombivore

Hello all,
In anticipation of the upcoming 'Toxic Mall', Guillotine Games has been showering us with new images.
This is  the infected Raoul - apparently he gains experience from killing survivors... as if the zombies weren't scary enough :-).

Zombicide! Raoul Infected
I know what webbing does (allows you to keep an equipment card even though you are wounded) but Death Grasp and Rotten? Sounds serious :-)
